Following global World Heart Day celebrations, the Hydrocarbons Prices Stabilization Fund (HPSF) partnered with the Mercy Azoh-Mbi Heart Foundation to conduct a three-day workplace health screening and awareness drive at its headquarters from October 7 to 9, 2026.
Spearheaded by Eboukele Mila Guillaume, Director of Human Resources; representing Director General Okie Johnson Ndoh, the campaign brought medical professionals directly to the office to evaluate staff health stats, review medical histories, and offer lifestyle guidance. The initiative reflects the HPSF’s core management philosophy that high institutional performance depends directly on employee well-being, leading to regular check-ups being institutionalized across the organization.
A major focus of the campaign was identifying "silent" health risks; underlying conditions like mild hypertension or elevated blood sugar that show no visible symptoms until they become severe. Dr. Sese Ekole, Country Manager for the Mercy Azoh-Mbi Heart Foundation, explained that detecting these issues early opens the door to lifestyle interventions, such as adopting healthier diets and increasing physical activity, which can actually reverse early-stage conditions without long-term medication. For staff with existing or advanced conditions, early detection ensures proper ongoing management to prevent life-threatening events like strokes or heart attacks.
To ensure comprehensive care, participants with elevated risk factors are provided structured referrals to specialized cardiologist services. Furthermore, HPSF leadership established robust safety nets, confirming readiness to facilitate medical evacuations for any cases exceeding local institutional capabilities. Following the headquarters sessions, the screening initiative will expand to the HPSF’s regional offices, checkpoints, and decentralized facilities from October 12 to 14, 2026, reinforcing Dr. Ekole’s closing message to staff; to stay active, know their numbers, and take early action to protect their health.
