The implementation of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism in establishments is an integral policy that ensures political and social integration. Following the instruction of the President of the Republic, the General Manager of the HPSF by Decision No. 0019/CSPH/DG of 5 February 2019, created the Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism (CPBM).

This Commission is charged with the promotion of bilingualism and multiculturalism, with one of its main objectives to foster peace, promote unity and the daily practice of living together within the HPSF. Led by its President, the commission has nurtured corporate culture and carried out activities to sensitize staff members on the insight of the varied cultures of our country Cameroun.  The Commission has so far carried out various actions marked by concrete achievements in some domains of the working environment such as;

 

Promoting Bilingualism

It was recommended and adopted by the commission that Tuesdays and Thursdays are days designated to the English language only. On this day, the entire staff, service providers and visitors are required to communicate in English. Also, this recommendation is reinforced through the publication of the Words of the Day Flash card (information published to improve one’s vocabulary in English), and the entire publication of the establishment’s Press review in English. More so, all Decisions, Communique, and other internal and official documents are produced in both official languages.

Enhancing Cultural Diversity

Taking into consideration the rich cultural diversity of Cameroon, the committee proposed actions which they implemented throughout the year such as;

• Taking part in exhibition trade fairs that promote bilingualism and multiculturalism,
• Organising traditional shows and cultural dances that represent the 10 regions of the nation,
• Promoting the delicacies that could be found in the rich diverse traditional cultures of the various staff of the establishment (this is appreciated through the food menu found in the establishment’s restaurant).
• Creating an environment that promotes working and living together by appreciating diverse cultures and religions

In this light, from demonstrating their cultural values, and their know-how in their different languages, the HPSF staff is encouraged to contribute with innovative ideas and fully participate in activities to help promote and improve the commission.
